Fincher to Host Military Academy Day 2014

Press Release

Date: Sept. 8, 2014
Location: Jackson, TN

Congressman Stephen Fincher (R-Frog Jump) is inviting all West Tennessee high school students interested in the opportunities offered by the five U.S. military service academies to his annual 8th District Military Academy Day. The event will take place Saturday, October 4 from 12:00 p.m. -- 2:00 p.m. at Briarcrest Christian School located at 76 South Houston Levee Rd. in Eads, TN.

The Congressman will be joined by representatives, alumni and current Cadets and Midshipmen from all five Military Service Academies. The day will give interested students, family members and teachers a chance to ask questions about these storied institutions, which offer some of the most prestigious undergraduate programs in the country.

"The students who enroll in the Military Academies are among America's best and brightest young people," Congressman Fincher said. "Those who are accepted in to these prestigious intuitions not only receive a top-notch education, but are also prepared to take on leadership roles in our nation's Armed Forces. I encourage all students interested in leadership, public service, and the defense of our country to join me and representatives from each of the service academies for this informative event to learn more about how they can serve our country in the Armed Forces."

Members of Congress may nominate a limited number of students each year to the service academies. The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

Students who wish to be nominated to attend a Service Academy as a freshman in 2015 must turn in their application to Congressman Fincher's office in Arlington no later than Friday, November 21, 2014. Applications are available online at https://fincher.house.gov/services/military-academy-nominations
